The Taliban’s contradictory stance on women has come under scrutiny after Whitney Wright, a well-known American adult film actress, visited Afghanistan. While Afghan women face severe restrictions, the regime appears to be accommodating foreign female tourists, including a star from the adult industry.

On Friday, Whitney Wright in Afghanistan shared images from Kabul and Herat on social media. Her photos featured Ariana Airlines, a tiled rooftop in Herat, a shopfront, and multiple vehicles. Interestingly, she did not appear in any of the pictures herself.

An Afghan media outlet attempted to contact her to understand the purpose and timing of her visit, but she has not responded. The Taliban, known for their strict control over Afghan women, have also remained silent on the matter.

This incident highlights the Taliban’s double standards. Afghan women are barred from education, employment, and even public spaces without a male guardian. Yet, Whitney Wright in Afghanistan, a public figure from the adult film industry, seems to have traveled freely without interference.

This is not the first time the Taliban’s approach toward foreign women has raised questions. Previously, images of Taliban fighters posing intimately with Chinese female tourists caused public outrage. While Afghan women are denied basic freedoms, foreign women receive special treatment, seemingly to improve the Taliban’s global image.

The silence from both Whitney Wright in Afghanistan and the Taliban only fuels further speculation. Why does the regime welcome foreign women while Afghan women continue to suffer under its rule?
