The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a military alliance led by Moscow, has voiced its concern over the security situation in Afghanistan. The alliance has urged the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to take more action against terrorism.

The foreign ministers of the CSTO member states met in Belarus on Wednesday and issued a statement. They said that the key to ensuring and enhancing security and stability in Afghanistan is to resolve the situation in the country as soon as possible.

The CSTO supports Afghanistan’s independence, unity, and peace, and its freedom from terrorism, war and drugs. The ministers expressed their worry about the “worsening” of the security situation in Afghanistan and the rise in the activities of international terrorist organizations, especially Daesh.

They called on the IEA and the leaders of ethnic and political groups in Afghanistan to have a constructive dialogue to form a government that includes all segments of society.

The statement also emphasized the need for the IEA to respect basic human rights, including the rights of women and girls, such as access to education.
