Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach continues to gather pace as Ishaq Dar held a significant telephone conversation with Sergey Lavrov, reinforcing Islamabad’s expanding role in global and regional affairs.

According to official sources, the two leaders discussed the full spectrum of bilateral relations while also exchanging views on pressing regional developments. The conversation reflects a growing convergence between Pakistan and Russia on key international issues, particularly in the context of shifting global alignments.

A major highlight of the exchange was Russia’s acknowledgment of Pakistan’s evolving diplomatic role. Lavrov appreciated Islamabad’s efforts in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, a process that has increasingly placed Pakistan at the center of high-stakes negotiations. This recognition from Moscow signals that Pakistan’s mediation efforts are not only being noticed but also valued by major global powers.

Dar, for his part, reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent position: dialogue over confrontation. He reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to promoting diplomatic solutions to both regional and global challenges, positioning Pakistan as a stabilizing force at a time of heightened geopolitical tension.

The discussion also touched upon cooperation in multilateral forums, where both countries see opportunities to coordinate on issues of shared interest, including international peace and security. This reflects a broader strategic understanding that collaboration in global platforms is becoming increasingly important in a fragmented world order.

On the bilateral front, both sides reviewed high-level engagements, including the rescheduling of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned visit to Russia. The agreement to set a mutually convenient date indicates that both capitals remain committed to deepening ties despite scheduling challenges.

In a further sign of growing engagement, Dar extended an invitation to Lavrov to visit Pakistan, opening the door for more direct and high-level diplomatic interaction in the near future.

The conversation concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain regular contact, a move that underscores the importance of sustained dialogue in an era where global alliances are rapidly evolving.

As Pakistan continues to expand its diplomatic footprint, such engagements highlight a clear trajectory: from a regional player to an increasingly relevant actor in shaping international conversations on peace, security, and cooperation.
