At least one militant was killed and four others injured after armed attackers targeted a police post in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the night, police confirmed on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. at the Mazanga police post, an area close to the Afghanistan border that has seen a recent rise in militant activity and frequent attacks on security forces.

According to Amir Khan, media officer for the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu, the assault was effectively repelled by police personnel. He confirmed that one militant was killed during the exchange of fire, while four others sustained injuries before fleeing the scene.

A police officer identified as Faridullah Khan also received minor injuries during the gunbattle and was later shifted to a hospital for treatment. Heavy firing continued for several hours before security forces regained control of the situation.

Following the attack, police launched a search and clearance operation in the surrounding area. Weapons and equipment were recovered from the site, including magazines, hand grenades, a bandolier, and a ladder.

Reinforcements from the District Police Officer’s office, along with Rapid Response Force and Quick Response Force units led by DPO Yasir Afridi, were immediately deployed to secure the area.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Zulfiqar Hameed praised the timely response and bravery of the personnel, announcing cash rewards and commendation certificates for those involved in repelling the attack.
