KP CM Gandapur Summons Apex Committee Meeting
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, has called for an urgent session of the provincial apex committee on Friday to address the escalating crisis in Kurram district.
Key Agenda of the Meeting:
- Law and Order Review
The committee will conduct a detailed assessment of the law-and-order situation in Kurram, focusing on recent incidents of violence and unrest. - Essential Supplies and Basic Needs
Discussions will include strategies to ensure the supply of essential commodities and basic necessities to the affected region, where residents have reported severe shortages of food, oil, and medicines due to prolonged road closures. - Steps for Lasting Peace
The session aims to devise a comprehensive plan for sustained peace in Kurram, involving consultation with relevant stakeholders. - Briefing by the Grand Jirga
The Grand Jirga will update the committee on progress made in peace-building efforts and maintaining law and order in the district.

The meeting will include members of the civil and military leadership, the provincial cabinet, district administration, and other relevant officials, ensuring a coordinated approach to the crisis.
Background of the Crisis:
- Casualties and Injuries:
In recent violent clashes and firing incidents, at least 130 people lost their lives, while 186 others sustained injuries, according to hospital sources. - Critical Shortages:
Residents have faced acute shortages of essential supplies due to the closure of roads and highways, including the main route connecting Peshawar and Kurram. - Violent Clashes:
Clashes erupted in the villages of Kalu Kunj, Badshah Kot, and Bagan Bazar in Lower Kurram. Armed individuals reportedly set houses ablaze, causing the deaths of women, children, and elderly residents. - Initial Incident:
The unrest began in Lower Kurram when vehicles traveling between Peshawar and Kurram came under attack. The incident resulted in 38 immediate fatalities and left several others critically injured.
Immediate Concerns:
The government aims to address the humanitarian crisis and restore peace in the region. The apex committee’s decisions will be pivotal in determining a sustainable resolution to the unrest and ensuring the safety and well-being of Kurram’s residents.
