The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab announced Friday the apprehension of Amin al-Haq, identified as a key aide to Al-Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden. “The arrest of this terrorist occurred during an intelligence-based operation,” stated DIG CTD Usman Akram Gonadal, confirming that the capture took place in Sarai Alamgir, a town in the Gujarat region.

Al-Haq had been associated with Bin Laden since 1996 and was noted by the CTD as one of the extremist group’s top operatives, involved in various terrorist acts. Additionally, he was responsible for organizing security for the deceased Al-Qaeda chief and has been designated a terrorist by the United Nations. “A case has been filed against Haq, and authorities are investigating the presence of such a high-profile terrorist in Pakistan,” the senior official mentioned.

“He was seen in Afghanistan in 2021 and possesses a Pakistani ID card with addresses in Lahore and Haripur,” the CTD official disclosed. According to the United Nations Security Council’s website, Haq, born in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar region in 1960, was declared a terrorist on January 25, 2001. In 2011, the US military conducted a raid on Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the death of the global terrorist, who was also responsible for the deadly 9/11 attacks.
