A tragic landslide in the Malopa area near Skardu claimed the lives of five individuals when their vehicle was buried under heavy debris.

Early this morning, a van carrying five passengers became engulfed by the sudden slide, triggered by unstable terrain and cold weather conditions.

Upon receiving information about the accident, Pakistan Army rescue teams, along with medical personnel, swiftly mobilized to the scene despite facing harsh weather and challenging terrain.

The rescue operation was carried out with remarkable professionalism and efficiency, reflecting the dedication of the team. The bodies of all five victims were successfully recovered from the debris and handed over to their families after the necessary legal procedures.

The operation also involved the removal of the vehicle buried under the rubble. Heavy machinery, including cranes, was deployed to clear the debris and extract the van.

The painstaking rescue efforts amidst freezing temperatures highlighted the commitment of the Pakistan Army to providing timely assistance in emergency situations.

Landslides are a recurring hazard in the mountainous region of Skardu, particularly during the harsh winter season when the soil becomes unstable due to freezing and thawing cycles.

This unfortunate incident underscores the need for improved safety measures, such as early warning systems and better maintenance of roads in landslide-prone areas.

Local authorities and rescue services have extended their condolences to the families of the deceased. The tragedy has left a deep impact on the close-knit communities of Skardu, who are all too familiar with the dangers posed by the unforgiving terrain.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by those traveling through the rugged landscapes of northern Pakistan.

While the swift response of the Pakistan Army has been lauded, the incident has also prompted calls for greater investment in infrastructure development and disaster preparedness to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Families in the affected area are now mourning the loss of their loved ones as the region comes to terms with the devastating accident.

As the winter deepens, travelers are being urged to exercise extreme caution on mountainous roads, while authorities are working to ensure the safety of routes in Skardu and other northern regions of Pakistan.
