PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Independent Palestinian State in UNGA Address

New York, September 2025 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He declared that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital is essential for lasting peace in the Middle East.

    Palestine and Gaza Crisis

The Prime Minister strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing strikes and occupation in Gaza, describing the situation as the “darkest chapter of modern history.” Referring to the cries of children killed under bombardment, he called it a stain on the world’s conscience and demanded an immediate ceasefire.

    Kashmir and Regional Tensions

Turning to South Asia, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue but warned that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains a dangerous flashpoint between two nuclear states. He condemned India’s human rights abuses and attempts to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty, vowing to safeguard Pakistan’s water rights. He praised the armed forces’ decisive response to Indian aggression earlier this year.

    Global Challenges and Climate Emergency

Highlighting Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against extremi$m, the Prime Minister reminded the Assembly of over 90,000 lives lost and $150 billion in economic damage. He also called for the declaration of a “global climate emergency,” stressing the devastation caused by the floods of 2022 and 2025.

    Commitment to Peace

Concluding his speech, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, justice, and peace. “We have won the war; now we want to win peace,” he said, pledging that Pakistan will continue to raise its voice for Palestine, Kashmir, and oppressed communities across the globe.
