On the night of December 24, the Pakistan Air Force carried out a decisive airstrike in Afghanistan’s Bermal region, targeting key commanders of a notorious extremist group and effectively destroying their media wing, “Umar Media.”

In the wake of this devastating strike, Umar Media released a five-minute video, desperate to counter the narrative and project a semblance of survival. However, the video, rife with glaring inconsistencies, only highlights their growing desperation.

The video features two masked figures claiming that Umar Media’s office remains unscathed. Despite their assertions, the footage betrays its artificiality. The backdrop, which includes computers and other equipment, shows no signs of actual operation no blinking lights or active displays indicating the use of computer-generated visuals created through readily accessible open-source software.

Moreover, the speaker’s voice lacks synchronization with their movements, strongly suggesting that the audio was recorded separately. This lack of coherence further discredits the claim, especially as the voice does not match the known voice of Umar Media’s leader, Shoaib Cheema, also known as Muneeb.

Adding to the video’s implausibility is an apparent editing glitch observed between the timestamps 4:46 and 4:48, revealing an awkward transition that indicates the video and audio were pieced together from separate sources.

The most damning evidence, however, lies in the use of unrelated imagery at the video’s conclusion. The images of injured children, meant to elicit sympathy and outrage, were traced back to Al Jazeera’s October 2023 coverage of an earthquake in Afghanistan. These images remain publicly accessible on Al Jazeera’s Twitter account, exposing the blatant fabrication.

Rather than salvaging their reputation, Umar Media’s poorly constructed video underscores their defeat. The falsehoods, technical flaws, and stolen imagery serve as a testament to the complete dismantling of their operations. This development marks another significant victory in Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts, reflecting a steadfast commitment to peace and regional stability.
