QUETTA: Two officers were martyred when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during a sanitisation operation in Kohlu area of Balochistan on Friday.

Security forces on February 10 carried out an intelligence based operation in Kohlu area to deny terrorists any liberty to operate, said the military’s media wing, ISPR in a statement.

As soon as troops started operation, an IED exploded close to the raiding party consisting of Army personnel.

Resultantly, two officers, Major Jawad and Captain Sagheer, embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) and laid their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat.

The sanitization operation continued in the area to apprehend perpetrators and enemies of the peace.

According to ISPR statement, such cowardly acts by inimical elements cannot sabotage the hard-earned peace and prosperity in Balochistan. Security Forces are determined to neutralise their nefarious designs even at the cost of blood and lives, the ISPR added.

Last month, a soldier of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom when an IED had exploded in general area Jani Khel of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Bannu district, the military said.

“Sepoy Gul Sher, a 24-year-old resident of Khyber district, embraced shahadat [in the incident],” military’s media, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.
