The Israel Defense Forces has begun carrying out airstrikes in eastern Lebanon, widening its military campaign despite a ceasefire that has yet to fully halt hostilities with Hezbollah, according to reports.
A military spokesperson confirmed that operations are targeting Hezbollah-linked infrastructure in the Bekaa Valley, as well as locations in southern Lebanon. The move signals a significant expansion in the geographic scope of Israeli strikes, which had previously been more concentrated in border areas.
Security sources cited in reports said that strikes hit areas near the town of Nabi Chit, close to Lebanon’s border with Syria. The area is considered strategically important due to its proximity to supply routes and its association with Hezbollah’s operational presence.
The escalation comes amid a fragile ceasefire that has struggled to contain ongoing clashes. While the agreement was intended to reduce hostilities, repeated violations and continued military actions have kept tensions high across the region.
Israel’s latest strikes indicate a willingness to broaden its operational reach, raising concerns about further escalation and the potential for the conflict to intensify despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
