Quetta Professor Arrested Over Alleged Links With Banned BLA

Quetta, August 18, 2025 — Authorities in Balochistan have arrested a university professor on allegations of facilitating activities for the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The case has sparked widespread debate over the infiltration of educational spaces by militant networks.

    Confessional Video Emerges

The arrested individual, identified as Dr. Usman Qazi, a lecturer at the Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), appeared in a video statement where he admitted to having ties with the BLA. According to his confession, he first established contact with members of the group during an academic visit.

Operating under the alias “Amir”, he revealed his involvement in three separate assignments for the banned outfit. These included providing medical aid to a regional commander, sheltering individuals linked to operations, and supplying a pistol that was later used in targeted killings.

    Shocking Disclosures

Dr. Usman further admitted to hosting two individuals at his residence, one of whom later carried out a self-blast at Quetta Railway Station. Another militant, who stayed at his home for several days, was allegedly preparing to launch an attack during Independence Day events on August 14.

The revelations highlight the growing challenge of curbing underground militant activities in sensitive regions. Officials say investigations are ongoing, with more arrests possible as the network is traced.

    Implications for Higher Education

The case has raised concerns about the vulnerability of academic institutions to external influence. Analysts stress the importance of strong vetting, monitoring, and awareness programs in universities across the country.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether others connected to Dr. Usman’s network are under investigation. However, officials confirm that strict action will follow as part of the wider crackdown against banned groups in Balochistan.
