Pakistan is commemorating the 28th anniversary of becoming a nuclear power with nationwide celebrations of Youm-e-Takbeer, observed with patriotic enthusiasm and renewed commitment to national defence and sovereignty.
In his message on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari stated that Pakistan harbors no aggressive intentions against any country and described the nation as responsible and peace-loving. However, he emphasized that Pakistan remains fully prepared to make every sacrifice necessary for the defence of the homeland.
The President warned that any act of aggression against Pakistan would receive an immediate, forceful, and devastating response. He also paid tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs, stating that their bravery guarantees the country’s freedom, sovereignty, and national security.
Referring to last year’s military tensions with India, President Zardari said that Pakistan gave a strong and effective response during Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, adding that the entire nation stands united alongside the armed forces to keep the national flag flying high.
He further described May 28, 1998 as a historic turning point that ensured an invincible defence shield for Pakistan’s independence and sovereignty after the country successfully conducted nuclear tests in the hills of Chagai.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also issued a message highlighting the importance of Pakistan’s nuclear capability. He said that if Pakistan had not become a nuclear power, hostile forces could have crossed every limit of aggression. According to the Prime Minister, Pakistan’s nuclear deterrence and strong armed forces remain a major obstacle against enemy ambitions.
The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of terrorism, declaring that the government and security institutions would not rest until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country. He accused India of staging the Pahalgam false flag incident and said the Pakistani nation and armed forces together foiled hostile designs.
Praising the leadership of Asim Munir, the Prime Minister said that Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos reflected the professionalism and preparedness of Pakistan’s military leadership.
He further warned that no enemy should remain under any misconception regarding Pakistan’s defence capabilities, stating that the country’s security is in “iron hands.” He added that through Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq, all militant networks and their facilitators would be eliminated completely.
