A deep sense of grief and fear has spread across the Ghwa Khwa region of Hangu District after a series of drone strikes on Thursday reportedly killed four children belonging to the same family.
According to local sources, multiple missiles were fired at the area amid claims that the operation was targeting suspicious vehicles and militant activity. However, the strikes allegedly resulted in severe civilian casualties and widespread destruction of nearby homes.
Residents stated that the targeted vehicle was completely destroyed in the attack, while surrounding residential buildings also suffered heavy damage. The four children, all from the same household, were reportedly killed on the spot, while several other civilians sustained injuries of varying severity.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and devastation as powerful explosions echoed across the area, forcing residents to flee in fear. Many locals claimed that innocent civilians continue to suffer the consequences of violence in conflict-affected regions.
In a separate incident in the Hangu area, a mortar shell reportedly landed in a crowded market near a petrol station in Dorri Banda during an exchange of fire. The explosion killed four people and injured at least twelve others, further intensifying concerns over civilian safety in the region.
The injured from both incidents were shifted to nearby hospitals, while critically wounded victims were transferred to Peshawar for advanced medical treatment.
The incidents have sparked anger and sorrow among residents of South Waziristan and surrounding areas, where locals say ordinary civilians, especially children, are increasingly caught in the crossfire of ongoing security operations and militant activity.
Community elders and eyewitnesses argued that militants often escape by taking cover, while local families remain exposed to the dangers of armed conflict. Residents have urged authorities to take stronger measures to protect civilian lives and prevent further tragedies.
As security operations continue in different parts of the region, many people say they desperately hope for long-term peace, stability, and an end to decades of violence that have deeply affected local communities.
