Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has announced the establishment of a new body to oversee operations in the Strait of Hormuz, as regional tensions continue to escalate across the Gulf.
According to Iranian state-linked media reports on Monday, the newly formed “Persian Gulf Strait Authority” (PGSA) will be responsible for providing real-time updates regarding operations and developments in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The announcement was published on the council’s official X account and was also shared by the naval wing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The Supreme National Security Council serves as Iran’s highest security authority and operates under the supervision of the Supreme Leader’s representative.
The move comes at a time of increased international focus on maritime security and energy routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit corridors.
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that indirect talks with the United States were continuing through Pakistani mediation, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
The spokesperson rejected speculation surrounding uranium enrichment and nuclear materials, stating that such claims had “no basis.” He also said Iran held “no enmity with any country in the region” and urged regional states to learn from recent events.
“They saw that the presence of America does not bring security and causes insecurity for everyone,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Gulf countries strongly condemned a series of drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Kuwait and Qatar issued separate statements denouncing drone incursions into Saudi airspace, which officials claimed originated from Iraq. Kuwait described the attacks as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, while Qatar called them “rejected aggression” against Saudi sovereignty.
Both nations expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and backed all measures aimed at protecting the Kingdom’s territory and citizens.
Oman also condemned a drone strike that reportedly caused a fire near the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE. Muscat called for restraint and dialogue while rejecting all forms of escalation and hostile actions in the region.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was described as “deeply alarmed” over reports of damage near the Barakah facility. A UN spokesperson warned that attacks near civilian and nuclear infrastructure were unacceptable and violated international law.
In the United States, former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene warned on X that any potential deployment of American troops into Iran could trigger “a political revolution in America,” reiterating her opposition to foreign military interventions.
