Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for launching missiles at an Israeli military base in northern Israel, saying the attack was carried out in retaliation for Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to AFP.
In a statement, the group said it targeted a military installation located south of the Israeli coastal city of Nahariya. The Israeli military had earlier confirmed that air raid sirens were activated across multiple northern cities amid incoming rocket warnings.
The escalation comes despite a fragile truce arrangement that has repeatedly been tested by cross-border exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Earlier reports from the Israeli military indicated that sirens sounded across several communities in northern Israel as security forces monitored incoming threats from Lebanon. Residents in affected areas were instructed to remain in protected shelters during the alerts.
The latest strike is part of a continuing cycle of retaliatory attacks between the two sides, which has intensified tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border and raised concerns about a broader regional escalation.
While Hezbollah framed the attack as a direct response to Israeli military operations, Israeli authorities have maintained that their actions are aimed at neutralizing threats originating from southern Lebanon.
The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides continuing to exchange fire despite international calls for restraint and de-escalation.
