Iran has indicated that its influence over the strategic Strait of Hormuz could generate significant economic benefits and strengthen its international position.
Iran’s military spokesman Mohammad Akraminia, speaking via the state-linked ISNA, said that control and oversight of the waterway could substantially boost national revenues and expand Iran’s geopolitical leverage.
He stated that Iran’s strategic position in the strait could potentially “double” oil income and enhance its influence on the global stage, describing it as a key economic and strategic asset.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, with roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through it, along with other major commodities.
AFP reported that shipping activity in the region has been affected since the outbreak of tensions involving United States and Israel, raising concerns over global energy security and maritime stability.
The remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions and renewed attention on maritime routes that are vital to international trade and energy supply chains.
