Iran’s Parliament Speaker and senior negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf held a high-level meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief Syed Asim Munir in Tehran on Saturday as both countries intensified diplomatic engagement amid growing tensions in the Middle East.
According to Iranian media, Qalibaf stated that Tehran would not compromise on the rights of the Iranian nation. During the meeting, he said Iran’s armed forces had rebuilt their capabilities during the ceasefire period and warned that if the United States “foolishly restarts the war,” the response would be “more crushing and bitter.”
Field Marshal Asim Munir also held separate meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Discussions focused on regional peace, stability, and efforts to de-escalate tensions linked to recent US-Israeli military actions, according to officials cited by Iranian state media.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson confirmed that Foreign Minister Araghchi held a second round of talks with Pakistan’s army chief regarding Tehran’s diplomatic proposals. The spokesperson added that differences between Iran and the United States remained “wide,” though no additional details were immediately disclosed.
Pakistan has increased its diplomatic outreach in recent days as Washington reportedly considers potential military options if indirect negotiations with Tehran fail, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Field Marshal Munir arrived in Tehran earlier in the day and was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, according to Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations.
The meetings come at a time of heightened regional uncertainty, with both Islamabad and Tehran seeking to prevent further escalation and maintain diplomatic channels amid the evolving Middle East crisis.
