PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Unified Push on Digital Transformation Plan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed federal and provincial stakeholders to work closely for a smooth rollout of Pakistan’s Digital Transformation Plan. While chairing a review meeting on the Cashless and Digital Economy, the PM emphasized that digitalization is key to promoting transparency, efficiency, and public convenience—all without imposing extra financial burdens on the people.
The PM underlined the need for all provinces—including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir—to align with the federal government’s strategy. A cashless economy, he said, is no longer optional. It’s a national necessity. He stressed that meaningful consultation with all stakeholders must become a permanent part of the digitalization effort.
The meeting was briefed on several major developments. The National Digital Commission and the Pakistan Digital Authority have both been established. Rules governing their operations are already in place. The appointment of key personnel for the Digital Authority is now in its final stages.
Another milestone was reached with the launch of the Merchant Onboarding Framework for digital services on July 25, 2025. This step is expected to streamline digital payments and improve public access to financial services.
Ministers from Finance, Economic Affairs, and IT, along with Chief Secretaries from all provinces and territories, participated in the session. Their presence signals high-level commitment to transforming Pakistan into a digitally integrated economy.
The government is actively supporting digital payments and fund transfers through policy incentives. But it’s not just about transactions. The broader goal is to simplify governance, remove red tape, and bring real-time service delivery to citizens.
As Pakistan moves forward, digital transformation isn’t just a federal agenda—it’s a national mission. The PM’s call for unity, speed, and coordination sends a clear message: Digital Pakistan must become a shared reality.
